We are on a journey. One that began decades ago. Denise and I both share a love for East San Diego County’s beautiful and serene countryside and specifically the little known community of Mesa Grande. Mesa Grande was settled by Swiss/ Italians in the early 1900’s. Its beautiful rolling hills and pastures, great water and forever views reminded them of home. Along with starting cattle ranches and dairies, the settlers planted grapes and established the region as a successful grape growing area. Their trailblazing led us to plant our vineyard and make our home there. Hard work, deep passion, and the local climate have proven that the choice was sound. Our vineyard now produces Syrah, Petite Sirah and Petite Verdot grapes of outstanding quality that produce rich, wonderful wines.

Why Tres Llaves (Spanish for three keys)? During the early days of developing our vineyard, we did not live on the property. Instead, we would come up for work weekends. A small cabin where we overnighted, an old Ford tractor to do our bidding, and a bin to store our tools, each had a key of their own on a small ring. Each time we would travel up, we would grab the ‘three keys’ and head out to build and establish the vineyard. Soon the three keys became synonymous with fulfilling a dream. The choosing of the Spanish iteration of three keys comes from my Catalonian heritage and Denise’s love for the Spanish language. Later came a home, a bigger tractor, more bins and yes, more keys!
